Cupid's Yummy Gummy Arrows

St. Valentine’s Day was first declared as a religious holiday by the pope in the late 400’s.  In the middle ages in France and England it became associated with the idea of courtly love and the lords and ladies might exchange notes or poems.  In the 17th century, the British common people got into the act of sending love notes to each other on February 14th. 

Today, we celebrate with love notes, little gifts and candy! What better way to enjoy Valentine’s than to make Cupid’s Yummy Gummy Arrows. Myth has it if you were struck by one of Cupid’s golden arrows you would fall madly in love. 

The God of Love, also had lead arrows.  If you are hit with a lead arrow, watch out.  You will be filled with hate. 

 

Try making these easy yummy arrows!

Ingredients: 

  • Pretzel Sticks
  • Yummy Hearts 

Optional fancy arrows need: 

  • White Chocolate
  • Yummy Strips
  • Scissors

Simple Gummy Arrows

Step 1: Cut a small triangle out the back of the candy yummy heart

Step 2: Place the cut candy heart on the end of a small pretzel stick

Step 3: Place a full heart on the other end of the pretzel stick with the vertex of the heart facing down. 

Advanced Gummy Arrows

Step 1: Cut a small rectangle from the gummy strips. Them cut a triangle shape at the front and make small cut mark on the side of the gummy.  It will look a little like the tail of an arrow

Step 2: Melt the white chocolate in the microwave 

Step 3: Roll the pretzel sticks in the white chocolate

Step 4: While the chocolate is still wet, attach the gummy strip to the end of the pretzel

Step 5: Attach the gummy heart to the front of the pretzel.
